I enter the room It's filled, it's filled with you You don't see my eyes or my feet But you can't see what you can't see It seems so easy to know how you feel So easy to picture what's real But you can't see what you can't see Mirror, mirror, on the wall What are you trying to tell me Mirror, mirror, this is your call To let it all fall, let it all burn down Let it all fall, let what you've learned down I still find myself the first one to blame I still stay inside on a sunny day But you can't see what you can't see Mirror, mirror, on the wall What are you trying to tell me Mirror, mirror, this is your call To let it all fall, let it all burn down Let it all fall, let what you've learned down I turned to you, that's what children do I'm older now, made it somehow It's gonna be just fine I'm gonna be right on time It's gonna be just fine I'm gonna be right on time
2.
There's more than white, there's more than black There's more than yes, there's more than no There's more than stay, there's more than go There's more than east, there's more than west There's more than right, there's more than left There's more than high, there's more than low There's more than fast, there's more than slow We're the boys, we're the girls who run the world Everything's gonna die if we don't keep it alive Has to be more than working 9 to 5 Has to be more than struggles all the time Has to be more than a house, a lawn to mow Has to be more than yaddiadioh Can you feel the change? We can be the change A little day by day Can you feel the change? We can be the change We can start today (when if not now? where if not here? who if not us?)
3.
You Amaze Me 02:39
You amaze me I feel blessed You embrace the armed and the wounded Forgive and forget, don't fear the edge You're my fate, I'm yours Low and high, far and wide We all want to feel alive True colours Fill us up one by one You amaze me I feel blessed
4.
Make It Move 07:04
There will be treetops as far as you can see There will be oaks made of infinity There is the moon, a chance to set the stars free All that is real has come from a dream There is fire There is light We, the choir We sing through the night Make it matter make it move There's no easy way through Why not give them all of you Make it matter make it move There won't be answers every time that you ask What's easy at first won't be easy at last A whisper so soft, then a fire so blue All you gotta do is take in what comes to you There is fire There is light We, the choir The lost ones unite Make it matter make it move There's no easy way through Why not give them all of you Make it matter make it move
5.
Be Lucky 05:00
The longer you wait the more time it takes To be who you are and make your own mistakes Stand up for yourself and stand up for it We have to belong but we don't have to fit You should know where you want to go And be proud of where you are now Life is long without a vision But don't turn a dream into a prison Don't judge the colours before the sun has come up Don't take it on you before you know how to take it off - be lucky Tomorrow will become today Today will become yesterday Stand still and you will still be moving That's the magic of everyday Don't judge the colours before the sun has come up Don't take it on you before you know how to take it off - be lucky Let your soul float In slow motion Set your spirit free Let it flee Listen to the silent Learn from the underdog Love him as he loves you
6.
Sorrows 04:14
Uh solitude you bring me to my knees I'm neither proud nor firm as I told myself to be The day before, just the day before Once joy would erase all pain Once new love, new love would erase old love Once tomorrows would erase my sorrows I instinctively start to bow my head When there are choices that are mine alone to make Will it change? Once joy would erase all pain Once new love, new love would erase old love Once tomorrows would erase my sorrows But no tomorrows will erase my sorrows no more
7.
Come as you are There will be time There will be someone to lean on A lonely star You've come this far There will be someone to catch you Whenever you fall Mamma, haven't I grown? Pappa, can I hold my own hands now? Sister, haven't I told I'm tired to the bone Of questioning how? How can I stand in my own light? How will I know what fight to fight? How will I know? Take on a little love Take on a little love Take on a little light I'll do my best to take on a little smile Take on, take on How can I stand in my own light? How will I know what fight to fight? How will I know?

Kig Op 05:54

Penny Police on new album: Believe in your inner voice
In both title and tone the new album from Penny Police is bursting with hope.

With ’Be Lucky’, the woman behind the critically acclaimed art-pop project, Marie Fjeldsted, opens up a room where warm and liberating messages echo: Find your own voice and release the fear of failure. It all stems from her becoming a mother.

”Penny Police is way ahead in the way she thinks music”
Kieron Tylor from Mojo Magazine nailed the phenomenon Penny Police in his review from SPOT Festival. Since then, Marie Fjeldsted (Penny Police), has appeared on a number of releases and in several live contexts. As a self- proclaimed "introvert anti-star", it never happens with big gestures, but always insisting on exploring songwriting, composition and sound - creating pop with perspective. This also applies to the new album ‘Be Lucky’, her second full-length, where Marie explores the importance of finding your own way in life, and your own voice. In her own unique and quiet style she examines the Zeitgeist.

“Don’t judge the colours before the sun has come up. Don’t take it on you before you know how to take it off”. (Be Lucky)

“Everything has to be 100% correct to be good enough. You never see the cracks. And I have gone trough a lot of soul searching and caring about feeling right, but there is no right way to feel or be. At some point I realized this an have begun to practice the fear of failure in order to release the fear and instead insisting on taking myself seriously,” explains Marie Fjeldsted.

The themes on the new album stems from when Marie became a mother four years ago. It also made her think about the quivering question: How do I become a role model for my child?

”You carry so many beliefs with you from your childhood and teenage years, and I began to question my own. My intuition told me very early on that I had to do things my own way. But I still need to practice finding my own voice and to make peace with it,” she says and continues: ”In ’Be Lucky’ lies a positive invitation to follow your gut feeling. Because if you are open and true to yourself I believe luck has an easier way to find you. This is something I always address to the child within us all. Children require an admirable desire to be seen, heard and loved. In that way my daughter is a constant inspiration and role model to me.”

The themes slip into a playful, dramatic musical space characterized by warm arrangements, immediate melodies and oblique structures full of surprises. On the album there is room for auto harp, a horn section, piano and a children’s choir - all created over a number of years in close collaboration with producer Aske Bode.

Among the songs on the album you find the single ‘Mirror, Mirror’, where the adult sees its inner child in the mirror and says: "it may be that you did not feel accepted or included, but now I fully accommodate you.” You find ‘Make It Move’, which revolves around leaving things as they are instead of labeling them in order to fit into boxes. And you find ‘Take on a Little Love’ dealing with how precious life is and choosing to smile although it can be tempting to hide under the blankets.

Marie Fjeldsted’s airy and dreamy vocals shines like a red thread throughout the album. It also has an immediate naturalness, emphasized by the fact that she and Aske Bode have used the cue vocals on some of the tracks. At the same time this is also the first time we hear Penny Police singing in Danish on record. It happens on the album closing track ‘Kig op’ which is written as a lullaby for her daughter, Viola, who painted the egg that adorns the album cover.

about

Penny Police Copenhagen, Denmark

Penny Police is the alias of Copenhagen based singer and songwriter Marie Fjeldsted, who has impressed with her alternative songwriting and her airy voice.
She has been compared to Agnes Obel and Emiliana Torrini but truly has found her own niche as Kieron Tyler from MOJO Magazine pointed out when he made her a highlight at SPOT Festival: "Penny Police is way ahead in the way she thinks music".
